Military Clothing – Survival of the Fittest
Military clothing doesn't just indicate belonging to an armed force, it suggest physical and mental fitness and strength.

In civilian life, it isn't hard to spot the ex-army recruit or ex-police officer – they're the ones who step forward with a cool head in emergencies, whether its helping sort out the mayhem of a car crash or taking control of an accident scene. They may not wear their military clothing, but their training and skills are clear.

Military clothing: A badge of honour
Wearing military clothing in the army isn't just an indication of whose side you're fighting for, it's a badge of honour and a short cut for survival and fitness skills. And even if ex-soldiers no longer wear their military clothing, they carry on their military training into all walks of life. In its career section, The Times newspaper reported on one man whose experience as a TA captain equipped him with skills that helped him in his commercial civilian life. Captain Keiron Francis works as a Captain for the Territorial Army's 31st (City of London) Signal Regiment. When he's not wearing his military clothing, he works as a district sales manager for a leading wine maker.

Suit by day, military clothing by night
For Francis, even though he's not wearing his military clothing in his day job, the army infuses his success. He told The Times: “I’ve learnt a great deal about management skills from the Army. You interact with people from all backgrounds and that gives you a really broad understanding of people.” Whether he's wearing his military clothing or not, the army offers a mental and physical strength in all aspects of his life. He signed up to the TA for the adventure, life experience and fitness, and wore military clothing full-time when he served in the infantry in the Army serving in Bosnia, Kosovo and Iraq over three years.

More than a uniform
The TA offers those who have served in the army or who have an interest in army life the opportunity to wear military clothing in their spare time and develop or build on their fitness, skills and mental as well as physical strength. The TA offers discipline, motivation and a challenge, whether its climbing a mountain or supporting the regular army; it demands the best out of you and your ability. As Captain Francis said, “people's lives often depend on it.” Wearing military clothing full or part-time is more than a uniform, it's a way of life, instilling leadership skills, discipline, team work and a sense of fulfilment. For Captain Francis, it's more than a uniform and it's clear why he's so reluctant to hang up his military clothing: “In the Army you are providing a service, it’s about giving something back to the community,” he told The Times: “You can’t measure that in money.”
