Police Boots Buying Guide: Comfort, Traction & Longevity

What is the best police boot you can buy for UK policing for office and outdoor use? It has to be hard wearing, comfortable and built to serve for years, but also to offer protection and support for your feet

Here at John Bull Clothing we continue to back Altberg police & security boots, as not only are they built for comfort and performance, but they support and provide excellent traction on rugged terrain and day to day street plodding

Over the years we have sold Magnum boots and AKU amongst others, but the feedback we constantly get is that Altberg simply offer a far superior option for not only combat situations, but construction sites, warehouse work and heavy strenuous activities too

Boots have too evolved over the years and whilst Altberg continue to use fine leather for their patrol boots, they've also pioneered their own unique slip resistant soles that offer great traction and longevity. These soles offer a more lightweight solution and allow for more flexibility when running or for more active response teams in volatile changing situations

The Peacekeeper P1 boot was first developed as military footwear when the British Army used black boots for training, combat and daily barrack use, but when army boots and the Ministry of Defence opted for Brown boots, Altberg saw the opportunity to promote these to police and blue light sectors given their tried and tested pedigree. They still remain ours and Altberg's best selling black boot

To compliment the P1 patrol boots, the P1 Aqua was also introduced which includes a waterproof membrane to keep your feet dry during use, noting the material uses breathable materials to ensure your feet can wick away moisture too. These black leather boots act very similar to Goretex membrane and are particularly useful in high moisture environments

All our Peacekeeper P1 boots we stock and sell come in their standard Medium width fitting, which offers an ideal solution for 90% of wearers, particularly daily street duties. However we can and do offer bespoke options for those with Narrow or Wide fittings, please contact us for more details on this

For the more active officer, then the Sneeker Microlite boot is the number one choice due to it's extreme lightweight set up - these boots fit like a pair of trainers and are ideal for rapid response teams amongst offer. Given the popularity of this boot, we also offer a Wide fitting to the standard Medium fitting, to fit a wider scale of servicemen and woman

Utilising a very soft grade of premium leather and the renowned Microlite sole, Altberg and John Bull Clothing recommend this as their flagship boot - Yes it comes in at a premium, but certainly worth the extra investment for more superior and comfier all-round fitting

To compliment this Sneeker Microlite, they also developed their only woman's version of their black security boots: the Ladies Sneeker Elite, which boasts a slimmer back leg design and uses their AForme fitting providing excellent ankle support but a slightly wider fore foot. This too offers a very lightweight solution but coupled with superb shock absorbing mid-layer and torsional resistance for rougher environments - The Sneeker Elite comes in a wide size range better fitted for the woman's foot and here at John Bull's we stock UK sizes from 3 up to 8

Warranting a mention is Altberg's Blueline police boot, which is part of their newer generation of slip-resistant tactical boots, ideal for more active wear as it utilises running shoe technology with its AForme design providing a narrower more snug heel and greater room around the forefoot to support when used in heavy impact situations.

Using Altberg's Microlite technology this Blueline boot offers a more lightweight solution to their Peacekeeper P1 boot, whilst giving you great flexibility for running, patrolling and vehicle work too

Last but no means not worthy of a mention, is their Tabbing Mk3 black police boot. This boot is designed for running and very active work, ensuring great support to ankles and achilles in its AForme design. Whilst a slightly lower cut to the Sneeker boot this improves weight too making it a popular choice for high activity roles and tactical operations

As with Altberg boots, we always recommend going up 1/2 size to your normal shoe/boot size. This allows for thicker socks, but also to provide a great upwards toe lift or rocker with more active use. All leather boots to give a little with wear and bedding in, but also with temperature fluctuations too, so whilst they may seem on initial wear to fit snugly, they will mould to your feet with increased wear

If you're unsure of the fitting, please ensure you only wear them around your house initially as we cannot accept any returns of boots that have been worn outside
